As part of the NEFTON project, we at AVL Software and Functions GmbH have teamed up with leading industry partners to define and investigate use cases that could shape the future of energy transfer, including pioneering concepts like Bidirectional Charging for Trucks.

V2D – Vehicle-to-Device: Powering external devices directly from the vehicle.
V2B – Vehicle-to-Building: Using BETs as a flexible energy source for depots or commercial buildings.
V2V – Vehicle-to-Vehicle: Sharing energy between vehicles especially for emergency assistance
V2G – Vehicle-to-Grid: Feeding energy back into the grid to stabilize and optimize power supply.

Recently, together with Fabian Schweizer (MAN Truck & Bus SE), our expert Benjamin Langer shared valuable insights at the 9th International VDI Conference – Drivetrain Solutions for Commercial Vehicles. The strong interest and ongoing discussions highlighted one key takeaway:

Bidirectional charging can play a role in reducing TCO (Total Cost of Ownership).

With the right regulations in place, and depending on the use case, BET (Battery Electric Trucks) charging costs can be reduced by 10-30 % annually.
