World’s first public demonstration of a Megawatt Charging System (MCS) with over 1000 kW: One of the first bidirectional charging stations in use.

As part of the “NEFTON” research project, AVL Software and Functions is working with partners from science and industry to make freight transport more efficient using battery-electric trucks. Last Friday, the megawatt charging station was presented together with Bavaria’s Minister of Economic Affairs Hubert Aiwanger at the Technology Campus of the Technische Hochschule Deggendorf in Plattling – an important milestone! Thanks to the innovative charging station and the truck prototype from MAN Truck & Bus SE, it is possible to charge the batteries during the legally required breaks, ensuring that the journey can continue for hours.

Special thanks to our team, who made a huge contribution to the smooth charging process with the help of the specially developed control unit. The software and hardware from AVL Software and Functions takes care of:

  • Efficient interaction between all components
  • Communication with the vehicle: bidirectional charging for combined charging systems (CCS) in accordance with the latest ISO 15118-20 standard and megawatt charging in accordance with the MCS standard
  • Monitoring and control of the whole system: power electronics, auxiliary units, buffer storage
  • Energy management

A big step towards sustainable logistics! 🌍
